#3 Why NOT me? - Part 2

So I must admit that the first part of the "Why not me?" post could be seen as very negative, pessimistic or just plain down and out.. Definitely not the intention of my posts at all where one is left feeling slightly worse than better off. The truth of the matter is that there are always two sides of the coin as we all know - we can't have light without dark just as life has good times and things and the not so good times and things...

So where as Part 1 (read here if you missed it!) focused more on the embracing life and its struggles side of life, this post focuses more on the lighter more brilliant side of "Why NOT me?"...So today, I want you to ask yourself, WHY NOT YOU? Why not you to live your greatest and best and biggest life? This quote below sums it up...

Maybe my favourite quote of all time that follows the same theme is one you may be familiar with, titled "Our deepest fear" by American author Marianne Williamson. If you somehow haven't come across it, or rather mistakenly attribute to Nelson Mandela who allegedly spoke these words in his inaugural speech in 1994, the words still ring true for many, including me, as I hope they do for you too..

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world.
There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking, so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we’re liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

~ Marianne Williamson, "A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles

I ask that you read that again. Let the words sink in, and ask yourself, "Why NOT ME?

Who are you NOT to be amazing and wonderful and brilliant and fabulous and all those awesome and beautiful things. As life gets busier and we live from to do list to the next meeting or appointment, we can so often lose ourselves and our goals, dreams and bigger version of our lives.. even if it's as simple as just being happy or having some ME time or just being... life is short, and time stops for no one. I have certainly learnt this the hard way. So before it's too late, or life passes you by, shine your light - in any way and form that feels and is right for you. Little by little, day by day...

Today was an awesome day for me... after months of feeling lost and overwhelmed, it just hit me that I finally feel like me again. By slowly doing and adding the things into my life little by little over the last few weeks like being more healthy, drinking more water, following a healthier and more productive diet and routine, the little effects paid off and by me asking and having the courage to ask "Why not me?"... Why can't I feel happier and more sunshiney and me-like again, I made a decision to make August my month of awesome... it's taken a bit longer and has been a bit more challenging than anticipated, but 23 days later, I now see the impact of the little incremental changes that resulted in this aha moment this morning.

So do YOU... own your YOUness and shine and brilliance and talent and those little things only you can bring into the world, and embrace saying YES to yourself as you remind yourself constantly of "Why not me?"... I look forward to seeing you sparkle and shine as you do!

Sending so much love, light, sunshine and sparkles your way, Poonam

#30to40 - Life in perspective

Just because I haven't been posting doesn't mean that the countdown hasn't still been pursued 💫🦋🌞 I hope as I share on how to put things into perspective you also take some time out to realise that sharing and "living" for social media is not ideal.. So many out there live for that perfect next shot or share that can be showcased to portray one's "perfect and ideal" life when behind the scenes we all know that life is not just sunshine,  rainbows and unicorns 🌞🌈🦄🙏✨ And so to the crux of my post - today, 30 days to my 40th birthday, I have lost my beloved and amazing Aajima 💕💫🙏 - my 91 year old special maternal grandmother aka Mom's Mom aka Shantibhen Vallabh born 6 August 1932 and passed away today, 3 October 2023. Nothing is as sobering as realising that someone you've known your whole life and so intimately won't live through another sunset yet alone a sunrise or anything else... Death is sobering and something so few talk abo...

#2to40 - Two is better than one...

Two is better than one they often say, or as per the Afghan quote "two are better than one, and three than two." Countless quotes, proverbs and sayings talk about two being better than one and maybe one of my favourites is from Ecclesiastes 4 9:10 in the Bible that says "Two are better than one... for if they fall, one will lift up the other." As my countdown starts nearing completion with 2 days to go until I officially celebrate my 40th birthday, it would be remiss of me to not celebrate a very big, important and significant part of my life - my siblings ... I am blessed with not just one, but 6 siblings... how the makeup exists is not important - but I am grateful every day that I am blessed with not just the "two is better than one" scenario or three is better than two.. but 6 - which to me is wayyyyyy better than any of the aforementioned! I came across an awesome article a while back that shares  "How your siblings can make you happier" p...

#1 You are invited...

Many of you may have journeyed with me through my various jlogging  adventures (journal blogging for those newbies - you will realise I am a great maker-up of words, especially those ending with "ness" that I like to think I've somehow coined!) ... But here I find myself, 3 months to the big 4-0 and more excited and ME than ever before... hence the titled of this chapter of my jlogging exploits being called " This is ME! " I have done my various advent calendar series along the way and the " Rediscovery of Poonam " in 2022, all with the same aim of sharing where and what I am as I mission to find out who I am, as I hopefully inspire, motivate and allow others to discover and own and claim and be the best versions of themselves too.  I'm proud and excited to share that I can confirm that something does happen along the way! I'm not sure if it's when you turn a certain age, or maybe when you've been through a lot in your life as I, and m...
