How apt that as I begin my countdown to 40, we get to celebrate one of my favourite holidays here in South Africa (SA), Heritage Day. Perhaps the thing I love the most about SA is the unique diversity and mix of cultures that very other few places in the world get to experience...
So today I pray tribute to my own heritage... my lineage and parentage that I have shared and written about before in some previous writinga about my ancestors and those before me (Click here if you missed it)... So as I take some moments to remember those that made and allowed me to be who I am, I invite you all to do the same...
I am proud of the fact that I am a third generation Indian of South African heritage πΏπ¦ I classify myself as an South African Indian knowing that I was born and bred in this rich, diverse beautiful multicultural nation with some of the most breathtaking landscapes that I have had the privilege to behold (and yes, I have travelled fairly extensively to more than half of the continents on this planet so am fairly well-placed to make this comment π€)...
SA is it's own awesomeness... with our diversity of landscapes, people and cuisines and so much more...our hospitality and remarkable ability to be resilient in the toughest situations make us very special - we truly are a rainbow nation epitomised with hearts of green and gold as our rugby squad fight to reclaim their throne of the global world champions as the Rugby World Cup 2023 plays out in France π«π· ππΏπ¦ππ
So today, as many South Africans have and will tomorrow (with it being a national holiday for Heritage Day) celebrate our South Africanness, I hope we all remember and celebrate what it is that makes us so special πΏπ¦π✨πππ And being South African is just one facet...
Remember how unique, amazing and awesome YOU are.. the only one-of-a-kind that is and ever will be. So as you celebrate your heritage, remember too to embrace your YOUNESS that only YOU can bring into the world π ✨ π« Celebrate this day. Celebrate your heritage but most of all, celebrate YOU!
Till tomorrow then,
Poonam ππ«π
